Any policy background & reason for the resolution |
Recently 2 Australians, along with people from several other countries, were executed by the Indonesian authorities. Australia does not use the death penalty, but the Australian Greens believe our Government did not do enough to pressure the Indonesian Government, or to ensure Australian citizens were not put at risk of this penalty in the first place. There has been much research to show this punishment is not an effective deterrent, and that the 2 people recently executed had reformed during their 10 years in jail. |
