Greens join call for the release of TPPA text

Green Party Co-leaders Russel Norman and Metiria Turei today joined other legislators from Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand and Peru in seeking the release of the text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) before it is signed.

Currently the countries involved in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement have agreed that the text for the agreement will not be released until negotiations conclude.  All documents, other than the text, will then be held in co

John Key is in Australia on a two day visit. His trip follows Nauru's controversial sacking and deportation of its chief justice and magistrate, and its recent decision to hike up the cost of journalist visas from $200 to $8,000.

New Zealand's oil obsession runs out of gas

The rapid decline in oil production and exports under the current government confirms that National's oil drilling obsession has been an economic and environmental failure, Green Party Co-leader Dr Russel Norman said today.

Oil production in New Zealand has fallen by 40% and oil export revenue by 47% under the current government, which is paying $45 million a year in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry.

Report predicts 250 percent jump in climate-related deaths

A new report predicting a 250 percent jump in heat-related deaths shows National must take the threat of climate change more seriously, the Green Party said today.

The increased death rate from hot weather is in research published today in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. The elderly are thought to be most at risk.

Greens call for end to ‘Aid that Kills’

The Green Party is today calling on the Government to end their $6.3 million police training programme in West Papua in light of new evidence from a New Zealand journalist about abuses being carried out by the police.

Journalist and academic Paul Bensemann travelled to West Papua undercover in 2013 and spoke with West Papuan people about the effects of the programme so far. His findings have been published today.
