Greens Urge Serious Response to IPCC AR5 Climate Change Warnings

Greens WA spokesperson on Climate Change, Robin Chapple MLC, today called for a serious response to the overwhelming evidence of serious climate change articulated in the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5).

The AR5 report bears similar outcome scenarios to the work done by the scientific community in Australia and verifies the findings and recommendations of the Greenhouse88 national conference held by the CSIRO, the WA Water Resources Council and the Environmental Protection Authority in Perth in 1988.

Black milestone in climate change reached

A black milestone in climate change history was reached over the weekend. Concentrations of carbon dioxide, the key ingredient in global warming, hit 400 parts per million of the air in our atmosphere, up from 280 ppm in the mid-18th century when the Industrial Revolution kicked in.  Internationally, we are rushing headlong towards disaster – 450 ppm being generally regarded as the threshold of ‘dangerous’ climate change.
