Lessons from Fukushima - Australia must prevent fuelling more Fukushimas

The calamity at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex, following the tragic earthquake and tsunami on March 11, confirms 25 years after Chernobyl that claims of safe nuclear power are false.

Fukushima Failure – A Japanese Perspective

Come and hear first hand from a member of the Japanese Greens:

Urgent Appeal to the Japanese Government on radiation containment at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant

by ECOLO Japan International (Official Membership Group of APGN/Global Greens)

Although it has been almost 3 months since Fukushima No.1 NPP accident occurred, high level and much amount of radioactive materials still diffuses from the exploded reactors. The Japanese government leaves every decision and work schedules to Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and do never take any initiative, nobody takes control of the present serious situation in Fukushima No.1 NPP, so the things have been serious and concerning.

A message from Fukushima

To: The Hon Martin Ferguson AM, Member of Parliamant for Resources and Energy, 159 High Street, Preston Vic 3072

Dear Sir,

The calamity at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex, following the tragic earthquake and tsunami on March 11, confirms 25 years after Chernobyl that claims of safe nuclear power are false.

Overcoming Fukushima’s Nuclear Crisis - Creating Nuclear Power Free Asia Pacific region

30th June 2011, Seoul, South Korea- Several months after the Fukushima nuclear disaster, we are beginning to get a sense of the likely long-term impacts. Radiation has spread across much of the northern hemisphere and parts of the southern hemisphere. Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency estimates the radioactive release at 770,000 terabecquerels in the first week of the crisis. Total radiation releases will probably fall somewhere between 10−40% of those from the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Radiation releases have not been stopped and will continue for some months.

No Nuclear artwork for your campaigns

This artwork was developed by Senator Scott Ludlum’s office – its for anti-nuclear, pro-renewables campaigns here but the artwork is very transferable to other places too.

Senator Ludlum’s office is producing car / bike stickers using this artwork. They are thinking of also using it for mugs and badges too.

Senator Ludlum’s office is happy for organisations who are part of the APGN to use this artwork too….given all that is happening with nuclear at the moment I thought you might get some use out of this great artwork.

Fukushima: It's much worse than you think (Al Jazeera English)

"Fukushima is the biggest industrial catastrophe in the history of mankind," Arnold Gundersen, a former nuclear industry senior vice president, told Al Jazeera.

Japan's 9.0 earthquake on March 11 caused a massive tsunami that crippled the cooling systems at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's (TEPCO) nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan. It also led to hydrogen explosions and reactor meltdowns that forced evacuations of those living within a 20km radius of the plant.
