Govt must back parliamentary support with action over West Papua

The New Zealand Government needs to back up its parliamentary support of media freedom in West Papua with action, the Green Party said today.

A motion tabled by the Green Party, in July 2014, to call on the Indonesian President to commit to genuine press freedom in West Papua was supported by all members of Parliament including the Government.


Animal Welfare Act Enactment Campaign

The number of companion animals has risen rapidly but contrarily, in poor condition are regional and governmental institutions for protecting animals and co-existence with human beings. The Green Party has campaigned to revise Animal Protection Act wholly, to introduce the concept of Animal Welfare of farm animals and companion animals.

Association of Greens using Esperanto

AVE (Association of Greens using Esperanto) has been founded in March 1984 in Liège (Belgium) on occasion of the first meeting of the European Greens Parties. From the founders: Maire Mullarney (1922-2008, Irish Green Party), Christopher Fettes, Jean-Claude Thumerelle, Wolfgang Guenther, Ute Haas, Emilo Mas & Claude Rouget (VERDire). At the Greens Congress in Zurich, 1991 Manfred Westermayer became secretary.


Greens celebrate shark finning victory

The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand today celebrated another victory as the Government acceded to the calls of over 45,000 Kiwis for a quick end to shark finning.

The National Plan of Action – Sharks has been released today, with a tightened timeframe for the implementation of shark protection measures including a ban on shark finning. The NPOA will ensure that a first tranche of species will be covered by the ban in October 2014, with a second tranche following in October 2015. Blue sharks will be covered in October 2016.
